Shirley and Bella

Shirley and Bella follow a fictitious day in the real life friendship of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm (the first Black Woman elected to Congress) and Congresswoman Bella Abzug.

 

As they are traveling by car to attend a conference in Norfolk Virginia, their car breaks down on the highway and is towed to a small southern rural town. Now, stuck for a few hours…they pass the time at the local restaurant.

The restaurant and its customers becomes a microcosm of what life was like in our country during 1971.

 

During the time spent in the diner, even though their political styles couldn’t be more different, you learn about the real life stories and extraordinary friendship between these two iconic women.
